The 14-Day South to North Grand Expedition has been created for travellers who want to experience the extraordinary contrasts of Sri Lanka in one carefully planned private journey.

Day 1
Airport – Negombo
Meet your private chauffeur at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to Negombo. Check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxed first day beside the west coast.
Distance: Approximately 15 km
Travel time: Approximately 30 minutes
Main experiences: Negombo Beach, lagoon region, fishing culture and coastal scenery
Optional experience: Negombo Lagoon boat ride or seafood dinner
Travel tip: A relaxed arrival day helps you recover comfortably after your flight.
Day 2
Negombo – Colombo – Galle
Travel south with an optional introduction to Colombo before continuing along the expressway to Galle. Explore the atmospheric streets, ramparts and ocean viewpoints of Galle Fort.
Distance: Approximately 165 km
Travel time: Approximately 3.5 to 4 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Colombo highlights, Galle Fort, Dutch colonial streets, lighthouse and ramparts
Optional experience: Guided Galle heritage walk or sunset dinner inside the fort
Travel tip: Late afternoon is especially pleasant for walking along the Galle Fort ramparts.
Day 3
Galle – Unawatuna – Mirissa
Enjoy a relaxed journey along the South Coast with time for beaches, coastal villages and scenic viewpoints before arriving in Mirissa.
Distance: Approximately 50 km
Travel time: Approximately 1.5 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Unawatuna, southern coastline, Weligama Bay, Mirissa Beach and Coconut Tree Hill
Optional experience: Whale watching, surfing lesson, beach club visit or seafood dinner
Travel tip: Whale-watching departures are early and depend on season and sea conditions.
Day 4
Mirissa – Yala
Travel east through the southern coastal region towards Yala. After checking into your lodge, prepare for a private wildlife safari in one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated national parks.
Distance: Approximately 150 km
Travel time: Approximately 3.5 to 4 hours
Main experiences: Southern countryside, Yala National Park, elephants, crocodiles, birds and possible leopard sightings
Optional experience: Afternoon safari or upgraded private jeep experience
Travel tip: Wildlife sightings are natural and cannot be guaranteed, but an experienced driver improves the safari experience.
Day 5
Yala – Ravana Falls – Ella
Leave the dry-zone landscapes and climb into Sri Lanka’s central highlands. Stop at waterfalls and viewpoints before arriving in the mountain town of Ella.
Distance: Approximately 95 km
Travel time: Approximately 2.5 to 3 hours plus stops
Main experiences: Ravana Falls, mountain roads, tea-country scenery and Ella town
Optional experience: Little Adam’s Peak sunset walk
Travel tip: The temperature becomes cooler in the hills, especially during the evening.
Day 6
Ella Exploration
Spend a full day exploring Ella’s best-known landscapes and viewpoints at your preferred pace.
Distance: Local sightseeing
Travel time: Flexible
Main experiences: Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak, tea scenery and mountain viewpoints
Optional experience: Flying Ravana zipline, cooking class or massage
Travel tip: Start early for quieter walking conditions and softer morning light.
Day 7
Ella – Nuwara Eliya
Travel through tea-covered valleys and highland landscapes towards Nuwara Eliya. A scenic train journey may be arranged subject to ticket availability and operating conditions.
Distance: Approximately 55 km by road
Travel time: Approximately 2.5 to 3 hours by road
Main experiences: Tea plantations, mountain scenery, waterfalls and Nuwara Eliya
Optional experience: Scenic train journey, tea factory visit or high tea experience
Travel tip: Train tickets are limited and should be requested as early as possible.
Day 8
Nuwara Eliya – Kandy
Explore Nuwara Eliya’s colonial character before travelling through tea estates and mountain roads to Kandy.
Distance: Approximately 80 km
Travel time: Approximately 3 to 3.5 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Nuwara Eliya town, Gregory Lake, tea country, Ramboda Falls and Kandy
Optional experience: Tea factory tour or traditional Kandyan cultural performance
Travel tip: Mountain roads are winding, so the journey includes comfort and photography stops.
Day 9
Kandy Heritage and Botanical Gardens
Discover Sri Lanka’s sacred hill capital with visits to its most important cultural and natural attractions.

Main experiences: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy Lake, city viewpoint and Royal Botanical Gardens

Kandy – Dambulla – Sigiriya
Travel north into the Cultural Triangle, visiting the remarkable Dambulla Cave Temple before continuing to Sigiriya.

Travel time: Approximately 2.5 to 3 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Dambulla Cave Temple, spice-growing region and Sigiriya countryside
Optional experience: Village experience, cooking demonstration or Ayurvedic treatment
Travel tip: Temple clothing should cover shoulders and knees, and footwear must be removed.
Day 11
Sigiriya Rock Fortress – Optional Polonnaruwa
Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress early in the morning and spend the rest of the day exploring the surrounding Cultural Triangle.
Distance: Local sightseeing or extended cultural route
Travel time: Flexible
Main experiences: Sigiriya Rock Fortress, frescoes, water gardens and panoramic summit views

Sigiriya – Anuradhapura – Mannar

Mannar Exploration – Jaffna
Explore Mannar’s historic and natural attractions before travelling through northern landscapes to Jaffna.

Travel time: Approximately 3.5 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Mannar Fort, baobab tree, island scenery, northern villages and Jaffna

Day 14
Jaffna Heritage Tour – Departure or Extension
Discover Jaffna’s most important cultural landmarks before concluding your journey. Continue by domestic flight, train, private road transfer or extend your stay in northern Sri Lanka.
Distance: Local sightseeing and onward transfer
Travel time: Dependent on departure arrangement
Main experiences: Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, Jaffna Fort, Jaffna Public Library and local market
Optional experience: Delft Island, Nagadeepa, Point Pedro, Trincomalee extension or additional Jaffna nights
Travel tip: A same-day road transfer from Jaffna to the international airport is very long, so an extension or domestic connection is usually more comfortable.
